Description
This is an unfired Civil War era shell from a Spencer Rifle (52 caliber I believe). The Spencer was the first repeating rifle. This was found years ago in the dirt under the workbench in the basement of my great grandparent's house in Ohio. No, the rifle was not there.

Very cool story! Get a metal finder and go through the whole yard. Did you try that? Thanks for sharing.
Scott Kingery replied:
My great grandmother had passed away (my great grandfather a few years earlier). The house was being emptied for selling. This was back in the 60s. I assume another family member got the rifle if there was one. Another possibility is that the house may have been built on a site where there was a camp or something. Thanks for the visit and the comment, Erica.
