Personally, I usually prefer color but there are times when the simplicity of monochrome / b/w really lets the shapes and light and shadow of the image shine through rather than having the colors play the dominant role in the image.

Wow, Scott, this image takes me back!!! The table up against the window, the cupboard in the background the beadboard but especially that wonderful tablecloth!!! I'm back at Aunt Lil's house!!! Lovely pov ... great work with the tones!!! l/f

Scott Kingery replied:

Thanks so much, Lois. Original image was in color but it wasn't doing it for me until I changed it and started playing with the tones because straight black and white didn't grab me either. The warm monochromatic was the look it needed and I knew it as soon as I did it! I am really glad you liked it!

Scott Kingery replied:

Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Karen.

I like experimenting with different media, exploring ways to add texture, and combining different media. That illustrator part of me always comes back to realism though. My favorite mediums have always been acrylic and collage. In recent years however, I have gone to working in colored pencils (prismacolor and also pastel pencils). I like the effects of layering colors. I...
