Artist's Description

Chellberg Farm was added to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in 1972. In 1869 the Chellbergs (Kjellbergs), a Swedish immigrant family, purchased 80 acres (a large farm in those days) on the southern shores of Lake Michigan to farm. The barn, circa 1870-1879, is a classic three bay structure with a gabled roof. It used a mixture of oak, elm, ash, maple and basswood in its construction. It is maintained by the National Park Service.
