Description
Tom Mix was born in 1880. He joined the army as a young man and was an artillery sergeant during the Philippine campaign from 1898 to 1901, but never saw action. Mix deserted from the army to marry his first wife. It never became public until after his death. He was a bartender and sheriff/marshal in Oklahoma. Later he was a wild west show performer including the famous Miller Bros. Wild West Show which eventually led to silent films. Mix is considered the first western star. He died in 1940 at the age of sixty in an automobile accident. This 1919 image from the library of Congress was copyright by Fox Film Corporation. The copyright was not renewed. I colorized the digital file and gave it an art media look.
