Description
This is another image credited to William Henry Jackson (1843-1942). Jackson was a painter, civil war veteran, geological survey photographer and explorer. He was most famous for his images of the American West. His photographs were an important factor in Congress establishing Yellowstone as our first national park in 1872.
In 1897, he sold all his negatives and his services to the Detroit Publishing Company. The Detroit Publishing Company archives at the Library of Congress contains over 2100 of Jackson's images. I colorized this 1901 image from the digital file of the glass plate negative and gave it the look of art media.
